"This book is a translation of Overbeck's celebrated text, Ueber die Christlichkeit unserer heutigen Theologie (1873, second edition 1903), together with an introduction and notes. The complete second edition is here translated, comprising the original text of 1873, and the Preface, Introduction and Postscript written for the 1903 edition. The latter additions incorporate some of Overbeck's late reflections on his friendship with Nietzsche and on theology. This is one of the first translations into English of any substantial publication by Overbeck. The original text of 1873 is the only work of a programmatic nature that Overbeck ever published on the vexed issue of theology's relationship to Christianity.
