**In the land of aloha and paradise, ****dark secrets lurk just below the surface.** When a tragic accident downs a tourist boat off the coast of Hawaii, dolphin researcher Kaia Oana is one of the first in the water, risking her own life to try and save others.┬á SheÔÇÖs enlisted to help the U.S. Navy find out what really happened ÔÇô utilizing her specially trained dolphins to help Kaia and Lieutenant Commander Jesse Matthews team up in the investigation ÔÇô but as they edge closer to the truth about the incident, their own lives are threatened. Will a spirit of grace and forgiveness prevail or will it be overshadowed by the distant echoes of past pain and the imminent danger from a cold-blooded killer? Set on the breathtaking Hawaiian island of Kauai, this novel provides an intoxicating mix of romance and suspense with the rhythms of island life. ### From Publishers Weekly After a missile "accident" results in the deaths of several tourists, Hawaiian native and dolphin researcher Kaia Oana is enlisted to help the U.S. Navy determine whether the tragedy was an accident or something more sinister. When she teams up with naval security chief Jesse Matthews, readers will rightly suspect that the angry sparks that fly in their first meeting will eventually be replaced by embers of a more romantic kind. Several of the characters in this suspense novel are stubbornly two-dimensional, including the villain, and the book's faith element often feels tacked on via platitudes rather than integrated with the plot and the characters. On the other hand, the pacing is strong and consistent, with the suspense building slowly and clues being dangled at key points throughout. The real winner here is the Hawaiian setting, with Coble weaving welcome elements of traditional culture and language into the story. *(May 12)* ### Review "Colleen Coble has concocted a tangy whodunit and spiced it up with just the right amount of romance, intrigue, inspiration, and a generous splash of spine-tingling suspense. Sit back, put your feet up, and try to sip it slowly-if you can! Aloha!" --Kathy Herman, author of the Baxter Series and *Poor Mrs.Rigsby* "This story of restoration steeped in Hawaiian tradition and culture will make you want to pack you bags and head for the islands. Aloha, baby!" --Stephanie Grace Whitson, author of *A Garden In Paris* "In *Distant Echoes*, Colleen Coble paints a picture of Hawaii that is as real as the characters she breathes to life. Rich detail, realistic romance, and you'll-never-guess suspense make this a story you won't want to put down until the last page." -- Denise Hunter, author of *Saving Grace* |
